One of the six human needs is Love and Connection. Most of us have felt love in one way or another. A deep adoration, feeling or emotion that sweeps over us unexpectant or built over time. There are several forms of love. A family bond, a friendship, passion, or unconditional. It is hard to grasp a life being disregarded as a child who may have grown up without parents or some type of family not having been loved. However, it does happen.

We all have this deep need inside to feel connected to the world. A belonging. A heritage. A legacy. A meaning for living and contributing to the world around us. Some may not know how to put into words, others may obsess about it. Obsess over a lost love, unrequited love or a love unreturned. Have you ever thought why we might want something we cannot have? Why do people have affairs? Why do people rape or harm others? We go a lifetime of wanting this need but do not know how to create a healthy relationship of give and take. A mutual respect. A divine purpose.

Like every human need, there are healthy and unhealthy ways of getting this need met. As alluded to earlier. Do you find yourself keeping people at a distance? Creating rules around your relationships that are hard for anyone to get "right"? Have you isolated yourself? If someone wrongs you, do you find yourself isolating from them? Afraid to be vulnerable trying again?

It may be time to start understanding your closest relationships to be more fulfilled. For me love has taken many forms. It has taken me a long time to understand unconditional love. Loving someone without expecting anything in return. The purest form of love.

Last weekend I spent some time with my Son. He is twenty-four, an organized businessman with dedicated work ethics, and a heart of gold. About 6 months ago he recommended a book that discusses the concept of slowing down to enjoy life in each moment. Getting the most out of each day by pausing not thinking of the next step, the past or things to do. He knows me too well. He had such an eloquent way of telling me that my overthinking lifestyle was preventing me from experiencing life. In tandem. God has a unique way of bringing home a message. I received similar suggestions from my sphere of influences this week. To be honest, I have spent a life of reacting, doing, and going after the next goal. Enjoying each moment and day has been a luxury I craved.

This thought process started in my early twenties. As a single mom I remember taking my children to school then rushing through the day to complete my business tasks (a house cleaning business). I knew I had to pick them up at a certain time. The repeated day after day mental training of being more efficient rehearsing in my mind what task needed to be completed next created some positive and negative habits. Having this type of thought process served me well when I worked in a Manufacturing factory for 11 years. However, when you incorporate this mentality into relationships and self-care it can be hard to relax and be patient.

I am so grateful I can learn from my past and have wonderful people in my life to remind me of what really matters in life.

Variety, the spice of life! Have you ever wondered how a seemingly happy couple ended things after just a few months? Or a job that seemed to be a "Dream come true" after time became dull? Have you ever felt bored at work in a relationship or tired of the same old thing?! Me too. That is because we both have a need inside for uncertainty. Believe it or not we can have this need met in a healthy or unhealthy way.

Being spontaneous, trying a new restaurant or traveling to a new destination are all healthy ways to experience the need for variety. A person who drinks a little too much, tries a new drug or gets into random arguments is getting this need met in an unhealthy way.

This can manifest in our career by attending seminars, training events, or challenging our growth by meeting new people and networking. Even driving to work a different way can add variety to your daily routine.

In relationships you can help meet this need by planning a surprise get away, gift, or even have a different type of date night like going to the dollar store and picking out one thing the other person must wear the rest of the night, or go on a scavenger hunt.

Be creative! There are many ways to get this need met in a healthy way. You will be surprised at how refreshing it can be to ensure this is met.

If you want to brainstorm on how to help improve your relationships or life in this way, please schedule a complimentary free meet and greet meeting with me found on my contact page. I would love to help you live your best life!
